This is our last day in SFO.Roni gave us bus instructions to Alaamo Square, where we could find these beautify old Victorian style houses.  I dont need to say anything more, the pictures tell it all. While walking around the park we saw three  men in uniform walking  in line and looking for something on tyhe ground.  Had a murder been committed there on the night before? Or was it that lots of people were exercising dods and they were looking for dog droppings so the tourists would not walk in them?  We will never know!  Just then a San Francisco Police Dept car appeared on the top of the park with lights flashing!  It must have been amurder!  It then came down to where we were and stopped!!!! The policeman asked where we were from and we told him Tasmania Australia- Oh Van Diemens Land he said.  Asked what we were doing in the US and we told him about the convention.  He told us that this was his last day on the force after 32 years, and that he was Irish born. (His name must have been Michael O"Reilly, or Pat Fagan or something)  Anyway he gave helen a SFPD Junior sticker (see photo)  Could I take a photo with Helen standing next to the patrolcar?  Sure! (Photo 1) He then asked :"Would you like me cuff her.  Please do.  But Helen said dont lock them!"(Photo2 - but you will have to zoom in to see the handcuffs)The other officer said that you could put the picture on the notice board of your Jehovahs Witness church. Then off they went!  By this time we were getting more adventurous about getting around ourselves, while not completely disregarding all the horror stories people had been telling us back home After a mandatory mid morning coffee we made an executive decision to go further on the trolley bus to Golden Gate Park - after all it was just down the road straight ahead.  Might get another photo of thr bridge but no the bridge is some distance way.  After walking through some bushy areas and keeping a lookout for suspicious characters, we came out into an open area with lots of people (phew!).Found there was free shuttle bus that went around the park which was quite large. That was good.  Saturday with family groups out for a BBQ (is that what they call them here - after all This is America! - maybe a "cook out".  Photos will give you an idea.     Backto town on the trolley for lunch. The sister on the stand recommended ramen in the food court.  Was that the name of the establishment or the food dish. Anyway we found the place and enjoyed a lacksa style dish (here we go food again!)  Then on the cable car to go to little Italy, an area while lots of Italian (what else!) restaurants.  Walking walking checking food and prices (but we had just eaten a big - but healthy lunch) Needed to know for later on.
BACK TO  Little Italy.  Sat in the park observing the people - one or two acting strangely - we moved away! By this time it was 5pm, and we went to our chosen place and had a glass of wine and shared bread and ravioli.  (we were still full as a fat girls sock from lunch, but still had to experience  eating Italian  in Little Italy.  You will be pleased to know that we didnt overfill ourselves! Just as well as we havent had weight scales here, but my trousers still fit. Time to get the cable car  back downtown. Now what street does that car run in. Checked the map several times and Helen gets us there -sort of with a bit of help from me.  Found the cc stop and the first one went past full up. One conductor told us that when you are on the car and it goes past just wave and smile.  There were another couple also waiting.  I suggested we walk to the next stop becase thats where two routes combine and we would have a better chance of getting on. Guess what.  The next car was full, and the couple who were waiting with us at the earlier stop waved as they went past.  of course we waved back. So we decided to walk back to town and that was good exercise - only 10-15 minutes.      Sp thats it for SFan.  I am slowly catching up.  We are in Starbucks in Greenwich Village using free wi fi  Till next time.  Love from us John and Helen

John, the painted ladies were gorgeous. I had to laugh at your trolley bus escapades - that's the sort of thing that happens to me too. Glad you're keeping your eyes out for suspicious characters - you can't be too careful over there in America!
