Hello! This is my first entry in what should hopefully be a very full and entertaining Travel Blog. I thought I'd take the opportunity of a quiet five minutes to outline why we are going, the plans so far and also to write a bit about how the preparations are going.

So, the trip came about because Tamsin really wanted to go and see her friend Laila who lives near Melbourne. After looking into it a little bit we came to the conclusion that if you're going to go all that way, you may as well take your time and see a bit of the world as well. So the plans evolved and we decided that we would go on a six month break. My work had kindly offered a career break so everything was looking good. Then when we came to look at the timescale, it was clear that to really get the full experience of each country, we would be away for much longer than six months. It was at this point that we made the decision to hand in our notices and go for as long as we wanted without any set date for returning. It is quite scary to throw caution to the wind and give up work, but I am getting used to the idea now and am focusing on the good times to come!

Our itinerary so far is as follows:
Singapore: Around a week.
Bali: The same
Australia: Until November '06
New Zealand: ?????
USA: A few weeks

It's not the most adventurous/difficult trip in terms of visiting countries that are vastly different to the UK. However, it reflects what we wanted to see and the places we wanted to visit. Once we are more seasoned travellers, there is all the time in the world to see the rest of the planet!

The preparations so far are going well. We have pretty much everything sorted, with just a few odds and ends to tie up. It has been surprsingly easy to organise so far; there are lots of companies and websites that are there to help. The biggest thing has been saving up all the money!

So there you go, that is the first entry on this journal, there will be plenty more to follow.

Edit: 03/04/2006 - I have added some pictures today of friends and family back home so anyone reading the comments and stuff can put a face to the names. Hopefully I can get some more this week as there are lots of people missing.

Edit: 09/04/06 - Just one last update before we leave the country. The last week has been fab, It has been a hazy alcohol fuelled week, but nonetheless a good one. Many thanks to everyone who gave us cards, presents and money. They were hugely appreciated, so thank you very much! I'm sure photos of the leaving party will be up as soon as i can get over this bloody hangover!!!
