We had planned to take a good few days to do this lovely part of the north island, but we got rained out. We drove around in the rain not really being able to see anything, but heard that it is very nice. Stopped at a beach, & a waterfall with a walk we couldn´t find. Went to some wetlands where you could bird watch if you wanted to! Cut the trip down to about 2 days in the end, as we weren´t able to see or do much. On the way to visit Russell we stopped to free camp one night, after an hour of getting lost & feeling quite fed up! The rain was really lashing down on this eve, & much to Lou´s BIG objection asked John not to park on the grass. You guessed it we got stuck in the mud so gave up for the night, for John to settle down to some mussel & steak sausages (70/30%) he had bought & had been assured we excellent!! He said that we a bit fishy, but they did stink out the van a bit!!
The following morning Lou we over to ask some poor bloke if he could assist us with pulling us out the mud (eyelashes flutter, flutter!). Left John & this guy to it whilst I walked this blokes dogs for him, one good turn deserves another they say!
