Melbourne

Arrived in Melbourne quite tired, after an uncomfortable night's sleep on the bus. We were met by a friend of Johns from uni, Ben, who lives here with girlfriend Kristen. We stayed with these guys in their lovely 2-bed lakeside house just outside Melbourne. Got in some sleep in the afternoon, before meeting Ben & Kristen for drinks and a chinese meal that night. The following day went out shopping for some winter weather clothes for NZ. After met up with a couple called Andy & Kel (who we met in Laos) and went to an Australian Rules Football match at the Telstra stadium for the evening. It was quite a good match between Essendon & Sydney, the fans were very fanatical about it all. It ended up with a win for the Essendon Bombers much to their fans relief, as Sydney won the cup last season.

As it was the Grand Prix weekend in Melbourne, they had a big screen up in the city centre to watch it on. Went down on the Sunday afternoon to meet Kev & Alice, our good friends whom we met in Haad Yuan, Thailand & a couple of their friends. Had lunch & drinks whilst watching the GP on the big screen from our table. After that headed off to another suburb to meet up with Ben & Kristen at a friends house for a BBQ.

Grand Prix Sunday

The next few days were spent shopping, watching DVDs, lunch with Kel, & a spot of canoeing in the lake. All in all a relaxing few days with good friends, in a very nice city. It rained on the last day, but overall the weather was cool & mainly dry. It was spent packing, a DVD & a roast dinner, with John's world famous Ginger Coffee Roll for dessert!
