Well I left the day after John for a 2 day trek, with one other girl Hanne from Belgium. We set off in the morning to a market to pick up supplies & meet our guide - Jungle Joe. After that we had a 40 min drive to an elephant village, where we rode elephants for an hour. We were also able to feed the elephants bamboo shoots and bananas as we went round, they just put the trunks back whenever they fancied a quick snack. After we took a half hour drive to a waterfall, where we had lunch. Lunch consisted of fried rice in a plastic bag, which tasted really good. From here we trekked 2-3 hours to a 'Karen' tribe village in the hills, stopping for little breaks every now & then. We arrived at the village at about 4pm, & got a quick shower in before it got dark. The shower was a squat toilet with a big container filled with cold water, and a scoop to throw water over yourself! We had a great evening with the family we stayed with, who cooked Green Curry, Chilli Stir-fry, & Rice for dinner & tasted as good as in any local resturant. After dinner we sat around drinking beer & a local Thai whiskey with coke, whilst trying to communicate with our hosts. We met a nice bloke called Buffalo Bill, who just smiled & laughed all night. Hanne & I retired to our beds, in a store room with mosquito nets & blankets laid out for us. We slept quite well and awoke to a new day & another cold soaking. Breakfast was Boiled Eggs with Toast, Fresh Fruit & Tea or Coffee. We set off around 9am, & trekked for 2 hours, down-hill for most of it. The scenery was spectacular & seemed to go on for miles, with the sun shining down on us. We stopped off for a drink at a little jungle 7/11 & got to shoot an air gun for a bit, which I loved. After we met up with another group of trekkers for lunch, which was Pad-Thai (noodles) & again tasted great. When we had let our lunch go down we had an hour of bliss, a bamboo raft ride down the river. It was so relaxing, a nice way to round off my 2 day trek.
In the evening Hanne & myself joined up with John & his trek group, which was nice to have a comparison. The night started off with a quiet dinner on the river front, which then lead to going to the bar for live music & buckets. (whiskey, red bull & coke) There was around 12 of us, and we ended up going to a club for more drinks & dancing till around 4am. (wouldn't want to let the side down, John & I left last) It was a great night as I got a chance to meet John's group, so I have an idea of who was with when he tells me about his trek. The were all a great bunch, & I would like to thank them all for a great night out!
