Flag of Germany  ,
Sunday, October 1, 2006

Munich was a blast from the very start to the very end. I keep hearing about these Americans putting Canadian flags on their bags and pretending to be Canadian. Therefore, "they" say I shouldn't have a flag on my bag, but whatever, since as a result I met three Canadians on the train from Frankfurt to Munich. When you're out of stuff to read (why did I buy a book with only 160 pages?), nothing is worse than having to sit for four hours in silence.

Despite my crap directions and the fact that my train was 35 minutes late, I had no problems meeting up with Lara. That said, all I'm going to do is dispel all the bogus rumors surrounding Oktoberfest. Sure the first two places we called were fully booked, but third time's the charm and we got ourselves a room (pretty good location as well) and didn't have to sleep on the floor of the train station. This whole showing up last minute probably isn't the best idea, but it does work. Even after we managed to book a room, we were told that there was pretty much no chance of us getting a table in the beer tents (you need to be seated to get served) - another load of crap. Not only did we end up getting a seat, it took zero effort, we drank too fast and didn't even get close to closing it. Learn from your mistakes right? The second day we took a free walking tour and turned up a bit later (4:00 instead of around 2:30). We found a seat with some people we had met, paced ourselves better and closed the tent. Nothing but beer, German songs, and Bavarians in Lederhosen and Dirndl for us.
