On our last day full day in Egypt we went out 30km south of Cairo to Sakkara the site of the first pyramids ever built. Sakkara was the main burial site for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dynasties. It was where all the Egyptian royalty were buried for approx 3000 years before Giza and The Valley of the Kings The step pyramid which is dated 2648 BC was built for King Djoser. It is still pretty much intact and there are 16 other smaller pyramids all around and in the distance.
