After saying goodbye to my relatives, it was time to continue on to my next destination, Budapest! Upon arriving at the main train station I was pleasantly surprised to find that even though Hungary is part of the EU, it still uses it's own currency, the Hungarian Forint. Finally! Euro free at last!!!!

One of my friends, Steve, who used to work in L.A. and now lives in Germany flew down to meet up with me for this portion of my trip. He did some advance online research and found an awesome 2 bedroom apartment for only 319€! Having an apartment meant we could go shopping for food so in an effort to save a little cash, we stocked up on the usual stuff including hotdogs. But when I was boiling the hotdogs, I stabbed them with a fork and they EXPLODED! WTF??? That's happened to me before to a lesser extreme so I really didn't think that much about and continued making my hotdogs. I went to squirt mustard on my hotdogs and mayonnaise came out! That's because apparently I bought mayo instead of mustard. Who the hell packages mayo in a yellow bottle and puts it right next to the mustard in the grocery store. Hungarians that's who. So, ok I actually like mayo on hotdogs, but then I went to take a bite and I couldn't bite through it. Why you ask? Turns out the lining holding the hotdogs together was made out of plastic! That's right, plastic. Unbelievable!!!

My friend Steve is a huge nightclub fan so he found a great nightclub down by the river called the Rio. I'm not a big club guy, especially here in Europe where the air-conditioning is sub par and everyone smokes, but this place was all outdoors and the weather was great so it was really cool. And TONS of super hot chicks everywhere! Steve's a great wingman, but the problem was, none of them speak English! It's hard enough to try to pick up hot girls when you can speak to them, but this was almost impossible! But we did manage to finally meet some nice girls that we could talk to and get to know a little bit. Hungarian girls are awesome!

One huge thing happening this week is the World Cup and even though Hungary did not have a team competing, they still pulled out all the stops to watch the games. Huge flat screen TVs were set up everywhere, with all the bars and cafes offering great drink specials during the games. But one of the best places to watch the games is Freedom Park which is right across from the U.S. Embassy. They had a huge TV set up and thousands of people came out every night to watch the primetime matches. This actually made the U.S. Embassy security very nervous, and they were on high alert. Entrances were barricaded and guys with automatic weapons and binoculars were everywhere. Looking back, this was a terrorist attack just waiting to happen. But everyone was cool and we all had a great time.

Make sure to check out the baths while you're there. My favorite is the Szechenyi Baths.
