Sea Breeze RV Park

Just a hop, skip and a jump and we were in Corpus Christi. It is a big city, so it's not like arriving at the beach.  We used our trusty GPS to find RV parks in the city, but there really weren’t many and they were old and crowded.  So, we ended up crossing a long, tall bridge to Portland, where we found a friendly little park by the bay and settled in for the evening.

If you were with us on our trip to Wisconsin, then you know I was astonished by the amount of corn being grown and subsidized across all of those states.  I am sorry to report that Texans are also involved in planting huge fields of, you guessed it, corn.  I was disappointed to see the sprigs of corn stalks emerging from the fertile soil in Texas farmland.  With so many states involved in this subsidy spill, it will be very difficult to find legislators brave enough to put an end to something we can’t afford to continue in our current budget crisis.

Another side-point about Texas, they appear to be religious fundamentalist for the most part.  Every town has a Church of Christ and a Baptist church (some of them huge, like a Super Wal-Mart), perhaps a Methodist or Pentecostal church.  There are also Catholic churches, but not nearly as many as the others.  There are a lot of theological colleges.  Many businesses post scripture on their billboards, in the windows or on the walls.  People have bumper stickers demanding that God not be left out of the Pledge of Allegiance or the hearts of the people.  Although it is like a step-back in time, it is a rather refreshing step away from the politically-correct antics with which we normally live.

Now, let’s move on to an important issue – road-kill.  It appears from my observations from the passenger seat of this RV that most road-kill restaurants in Texas are currently serving up armadillo and possum with an occasional raccoon tossed in.  It is rather sad to see those turtle-like armadillos lying on their hard backs with their little feet straight up in the air. But, it’s better than seeing ol’ squished Mr. Possum, I suppose.

Happy birthday to my brother Ed.  Love you
