Left Zion this morning after a visit to the dump station.  So glad that is John's job.  Poopy.  Up, up and through the long tunnel again.  And then south to Arizona.  John finally let me drive through the red sand and sagebrush and then up into the mountains and over the pass.  The Vermilion Cliffs go for miles and miles.  It is a very impressive plateau.  But, before we got to the Navajo Bridge over the Little Grand Canyon, he took over again.  I was ready.

Arizona highways are in trouble.  It was a rough road for most of the way.  Our first stop at the Grand Canyon was the Desert View area.  There is a building there they call the Watch Tower.  It was designed in the 1930's by a female architect who personally oversaw the placement of each stone.  She designed it to look ancient and did a nice job.

The Grand Canyon is so big and wide and vast.  It is a world unto itself.  We will see much more tomorrow, as it was late and we were getting tired.  We did stop at the Tusayan museum and ruins display.  There were some folks on motorcycles there that asked John about being from Wyoming.  One of the guys said he might go to Rock Springs to work for Peak Energy.  Funny.

We are staying at Grand Canyon Camper Village in Tusayan just south of the park.  Most of the campgrounds inside the park aren't open yet.  I can't say I am very impressed with this place, but it will have to do.  They do have wi-fi, although it is really slow, so I can catch up on my travel blog, email, etc.

I hope tomorrow's tale will be more enthusiastic.  We will go back to the park and go to the village, where we will take the shuttle and see the sights.  We'll spend one more night here and then move south to the Sedona area.  It is so wonderful to have the time and freedom to make this trip.  I thank my husband for being such a good planner, provider and partner.  Dang I'm a lucky lady!
