Next stop, now on our way towards fruit picking in Hastings, was Taupo, a town in the centre of the North Island and by a big lake. The lake was created by a volcano erupting some time ago (that's quite a long time ago but can't remember how long). We arrived in the town and the view took our breath away, the blue lake in front and snow capped volcano behind it. We didn't expect to see any snow anymore. Maybe we can now have white Christmas in New Zealand?

Jo picked up a free magazine and flicked through the job ads as we were eating lunch, found a cafe looking for people and looked up from the mag and the soup - there the cafe was, right next door! So she walked in and got a shift arranged for the next morning, "easy as bonjour" as they say in France. After some thinking she turned the job down though, fruit picking would be much more of an experience and anyway who wants to stay in one place for the whole summer?

The activity for Taupo was Rock'n'Ropes high ropes course. 2.5 hours spent climbing up poles like monkeys and jumping on trapezes. 15 metres feels like very high up. The day was excellent and Julien was very excited about all the monkey business...! We also went for a walk on Huka Falls, the widest waterfall in NZ. Wouldn't want to be going down that in a canoe...
