Great Barrier Reef Country
Entry 63 of 79 | show all | print this entry |
Tuesday was a travel day. We'd had called an old friend from Ambassador College, Geoff Robertson, Monday evening, and arranged to meet for brunch the next morning in Brisbane where he now lives with his wife Roxanne and daughters. Geoff was in the Young Ambassadors at the same time I was, and we had worked together on some of the festival videos. He's a talented musician who sang at our wedding. We looked forward to seeing him again.
We drove up to Brisbane without difficulty and met Geoff, Roxanne and one of their daughters for brunch. We had a good time catching up on news and reminiscing about the good old days. It didn't seem possible that the memories we discussed were over twenty years old!
Before our flight, Geoff guided us into the center of Brisbane for a view of the waterfront and the skyline. It impressed us as a compact, clean, well organized city we wouldn't mind visiting again.
We dropped off the car and checked in for our flight north. Our next stop was Cairns on the north east coast of Australia, a two-hour north of Brisbane. All passed without incident, so we arrived at our lodging at dusk.
We'll be here in Cairns for a week of family vacation time, and won't have good Internet if any at all. We plan on spending several days on a live-aboard dive boat, scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef, 30 to 40 kms (20 to 30 miles) off the coast. I'll post some notes and photos on the blog when we get back to civilization!
