Trip Itinerary
Entry 1 of 79 | show all | print this entry |
Our preparations are almost finished! This trip has been in the planning for nearly a year, and we're finally almost ready to go. A little background: I'm a pastor and regional coordinator for the United Church of God, an international association, working especially in French-speaking countries. These include nations and territories in Europe, Africa, and North America as well as various islands here and there around the world. This work requires a great deal of travel, and frequent absences from my family.
I save my airline miles and every few years we have enough to take our daughters, Fiona and Tatiana with us as my wife Marjolaine and I travel to visit members of our church in other countries. I planned one of my periodic trips to Africa for this summer, when everyone could go. As the plans progressed, additional stops were added in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
As things stand now our itinerary includes: Transiting through London, and through Ghana in West Africa. Visits in Togo, Benin, Cameroon in West and Central Africa, Rwanda and Kenya in East Africa, South Africa, and Mauritius off the coast of Madagascar. Then we'll go on to Asia visiting people in Hong Kong and the Philippines. From there we'll make some visits in Australia including one to our church office in Brisbane, and finally we'll visit some old and new friends in New Zealand before heading home at the end of the summer.
There is lots of planning that goes into a trip like this: airline tickets, visas, hotel and rental car reservations, clothing for multiple climates and health care products, like a Yellow Fever vaccination, anti-malaria medication and usual travel necessities like Imodium.... We've been working on this and anticipating it for months
Our suitcases are almost full, and last minute preparations are almost completed. Next Tuesday, if all goes as planned, we'll be off around the world. We're excited at the thought of seeing so many old friends and making new ones as well! Check back and follow our adventures - on trips like this there are always adventures!

Thank You Isn't Enough (reply) Jul 1, 2006 12:55 EST by tvs
I have enjoyed all 26 entries. Thanks to all of you for taking the time to share your travels with me. They have given me a new way of looking at what I THINK are 'problems' in my life.
Thanks Again...Ty Summers, ucg.Tampa, FL
