Hey! So much has happened already! We got in to Ghana Wednesday night. Thursday (yesterday), we went to Kakum National Park. First we hiked up a trail through the rainforest filled with bugs, mud, and animals we could hear and only imagine since we couldn't see them. We reached the canopy walk and the first bridges were crossed carefully and fearfully, without looking down. The bridges were attached to tall trees and looking down we could usually only see tree tops sticking out of the mist. Ants covered the trees and other bugs were seen running around. The bridges creaked and swayed and we held on tightly. I slipped once and my foot caught between the board and rope. It was an amazing experience which I will never forget. The drive there was about 3 ½ hours. In the USA that wouldn't be long, but on the bumpy roads filled with potholes, sleeping was impossible for more than 5 minutes, then you would be jolted up in your seat and banged around. Even reading was hard because you couldn't hold your hand still for very long. I resorted to listening to music and looking outside. It is fascinating to look outside because you see so many sights so foreign to the US. School children skip down the road with their friends, in their school uniforms if their parents can even afford to send them to school. Ladies walk around with baskets and containers on their heads, holding things to sell. It's not for extra money however, it's for a living. Some children have to work even if both their parents are working. Goats wander into the road only moving after you've honked your horn at them about ten times. Trash lies in the street and people beg for food and money. It is fascinating and sad to watch them walk by. Anyways, I better finish up because I'm exhausted and need to get some sleep, but I'd like to finish with this. Although many people in America complain about things they don't have, the latest clothes or a new gadget, we should be so thankful just to have necessities. Clothes, shelter, food, these things we take for granted yet many people around the world don't even have that much. Just something to think about. Anyways, miss you all!
