Today I slept in a bit and then had a brief look through the Oceanographic Museum in Cherbourg. The pride of the museum is the "Redoutable", France's first nuclear missile submarine, long since decommissioned, and now open to the public. The visit was quite interesting, seeing the living quarters, the giant missile tubes amidships, the command center with its charts, rudimentary computers, and periscopes, and the torpedo tubes forward. It really was quite interesting, and on that cold wintry day I had the whole submarine almost to myself.
I drove back to Paris and found a place to stay near the airport. More thumbnails ...
