Arrival in Mauritius

I did get a bit more sleep on that flight, but not as much as I would have liked. The plane arrived about 7:00, half an hour ahead of schedule, but then there was no ramp open so we had to wait for nearly the whole half hour on the tarmac. Formalities went quickly, and I picked up the rental car, then went back to look for Suren Proag who had just arrived by the time I got the luggage in the car. I followed him to this hotel, taking about 10 minutes to get comfortable driving on the left again. I checked in at about 9:00. I showered and changed and went over my notes and at 10:30 was as ready as I was going to be for our Church service.

The beach at Flic en Flac

I gave an hour-long sermon entitled "Adorer Dieu dans la pureté", and showed the DVD of the last African trip, and then we went to the Maharajah restaurant for an Indian lunch. It was quite good. I love Indian food and it's very good and not expensive in Mauritius, so I eat a lof of it when I come.

We dropped Clency at a bus stop and I went to my room for a two-hour nap. I could have slept longer but didn't allow myself to do so, hoping I would sleep through the night, which I did. Suren came back at 6:30 at which time we drove to Flic en Flac to watch the sun set over the sea. We couldn't actually see the sun as it was covered in clouds, but the sky had clear sections and the beach was really beautiful. It was also crowded with people camping out on the beach. It was a truly idyllic tropical scene. I was dead tired by the time we got back, around 22:00, and slept until 5:00 this morning, which is pretty good, and had an Indian breakfast of curried vegetables and bread at the hotel. At 11:30 I met Munian at the Golden Crest Hotel, five minutes walk up the main street of Quatre Bornes. Suren told me that in Mauritius the main street of every town is called la voie royale, an interesting hold-over from the French administration.
