Out of Africa
Entry 19 of 19 | show all | print this entry |
At 7:30 last night I took the shuttle to the airport where I sped through checkin, and read until it was time to take off. The flight was delayed half an hour since some people had managed to get on the flight who weren't supposed to be there. The crew counted us and counted again and went over lists, finally calling a few names and removing a few passengers who for whatever reason weren't supposed to be passengers. The flight was not too eventful except for one rather exciting moment just as I was dozing off. I was on the edge of sleep when the women sitting next to me dumped a full glass of cold water in my lap. That will wake one up. Neither of us was very happy. She looked at me rather sternly and said "Vous m'excuserez!" (You will excuse me!) This was delivered in the tone of an order rather than a request and when she saw my frustrated expression, she repeated the order! I decided that since we were being frank about our sentiments I would reply in kind. "You will pay attention!" I told her and that was the end of our conversation for the rest of the flight.
I walked back to the galley and asked for some napkins to dry off as well as I could, and when I got back to the seat I found that since her blaket had gotten wet during the aquatic procedings, she had taken the blanket off my seat (I wasn't using it was I?) which had still been wrapped in plastic and so was still dry. She was all tucked in a appeared to be sleeping, so I let her be and placed my pillow over my legs to keep them warm until they dried. I slept reasonably well for a 5 ½ hour flight, arriving in Paris only a little late, around 06:30. Out of Africa!
Now I'll wait in the airport until Marjolaine arrives, which should be around 10:30.
