Today was a long travel day, but all went well. We went to Heathrow airport at 10:30, and checked in for our 1:00 flight to Chicago. The 8-hour flight passed without incident. I was impressed by the advanced entertainment system on the British Airways 747. There were about 30 films offered (plus TV shows, games and music) that each passenger could start any time, stop, rewind, fast-forwards etc. Considering that this was going on independently for several hundred passengers, it was quite an advanced system.
In Chicago we cleared immigration and customs and had just enough time to make to our connecting flight. We arrived at the gate as passengers were already loading into the small Brazilian-made Embraer jet. After less than an hour in the air we arrived home. My wife Marjolaine met us at the airport to drive us home, it was wondeful to see her about being away for over 4 weeks.

My next trip on behalf of UCG, if all goes as planned, will be a 7-week trip between June and August to Jordan and Israel. My family will join me this time as we accompany United Youth Corps volunteers who will be working at two summer camps in Jordan, and who will then tour Jordanian and Israeli historical and cultural sites before working for 4 weeks on an archaological dig on tel Megiddo in northern Israel. It should be quite an interesting summer, I do intend to keep the blog going during that trip. If you're interested, check back on June 18th.
