TToday was a catch-up day for me. Dr. Swartz, Flavia, Rahab and I had breakfast at around 7:30, after which they headed off to the CHK as it's called here. That stands for Centre Hospitalier de Kigali, which is where the Rwandan dental program of the United Church of God Good Works Project is conducted. They got set up and started seeing patients with particularly difficult cases needing attention.
I met with our Rwandan elder Mr. Jean-Marie Mundeli at 9:00 to discuss the situation of the Church in this country, plan for the future, and also work out the final details of our activities during our time here. All this took a large portion of the morning. In the afternoon I caught up on various projects needing attention including festival organization in France and Mauritius, French publications, and some details for the Youth Corps project that will take place in Jordan and Israel this summer. Mr. David Baker and I have been asked to oversee on the ground the work of young adults from UCG who will organize and staff two summer camps for mentally and physically challenged young people in Jordan, followed by a week-long tour of historical and archeological sites in Jordan and Israel, which will in turn be followed by work on the ongoing Megiddo archeological excavation sponsored by Tel Aviv University. In the future, that should make for an interesting travel blog, but right now there are many preparatory details to consider.
Our dental team arrived back Chez Lando (chez in French meaning "in the place or milieu where someone lives" - all that in one little French word) around 6:00 and we had dinner together in the outdoor grill for which Chez Lando is locally famous. We had the famous goat brochettes with fries: tasty meat even if it does give the jaws a workout.... Jet lag and travel fatigue are still present so we won't stay up too late, since tomorrow morning we're planning to get an early start (6:30 breakfast) so as to allow as much time seeing patients as possible.
