While driving to Saint Tropez we were lucky to pass though a stretch of coast called 'Massif de l'esterel’ a place remarkable for its red rock cliffs and eucalyptus trees. Sound familiar? It really looked like home, the water so bright and clear. It was fantastic to see it, but we were suddenly reminded how much France hates motorhomes. Lets say we are second class tourists, because we can barely park anywhere! Most parks specifically say NO CAMPERS or have a 2m boom gate. Oh well, we always improvise…

We stopped in a place where in 1944, US troops attacked the beach to begin their southern French campaign against the Germans. It has one of the original beach troop boats there as a monument. We thought the place was pretty sombre, but it was actually being used as a kind of camp park..

In Saint Tropez, little more that a little cute harbor, but somehow made famous by Bridget Bardot, is full of rich and exorbitant shops which we tried to avoid. Jena was startled by the mannequins in the shop windows. They were so thin you could see their rib cage in the top of their chests. Kinda like they had dressed up some Auschwitz survivors. It wasn’t right.
Most of the afternoon however was spent basking in the sunlight in the park where we watch the locals play Boulez, which was very amusing. These players were nice though. When we were in Cannes we saw a player throw one of his cannon balls at an innocent pigeon.
