Our main regret from the last trip were the half a dozen churches that made up the old city. We arrived at the Spanish steps again to start our church themed route, starting with Santa Maria Maggiore; famous for its fifth century mosaics. Then to the Basillica San Giovanni in Laterano; The oldest church in Rome. San Pietro in Vincoli; where Michelangelo's Moses sculpture is. Then lastly, San Maria in Cosmedin; The church we failed miserably to find last time. It’s the one that has the big stone face, the 'Bocca Della Verita’ (mouth of truth) which legend has it that if you put your fist in its mouth and tell a lie then it will chomp your hand off
Later we investigated the whole forum situation, where we were uncertain where good ol’ Cesar was murdered. It is a bit diluted, but it seems he was killed in the ruin which is also called the temple of Mars. There’s not much of it there, a real anti-climax.
In the evening we sat in a café and watched the sunset over Piazza Venzia, then later when it was dark we bought some pizzas and sat by the Trevi fountain as all the lights came on the statues. We tossed more coins in again to ensure our return to Rome AGAIN.
When we returned to big wig at the train station we were worried that he may have been tampered with all alone in the parking lot at night. When we got there we saw some dude scoping him out on his push bike. He fled when we arrived, it must have been our fierce aura of justice that frightened him.
