Our swollen feet were aching from the harassment of Rome so we were determined not to do any more foot-soldiering in the near future. We headed outwards towards Tivoli, which is a little hill town where the ancient Romans would go on vacation. Kind of like the Bali of ancient Rome. The place though was festooned with cars and when we finally found a spot, although there was sweet schloss to be had, the famous gardens were way out of our price range. So we peered over the wall. We even tried to just walk in casually, but the lady yelled at us and we had to walk out in shame.

Just a short way down the road is a place called Friscati, a former Pope's holiday spot, now famous for its Friscati wine. As we walked about we were able to look out upon the massive flats below and over the expanse of the massive city of Rome.
We were passing all these windows and shops with provocative pastries for sale. The cookie woman, a little voluptuous biscuit, had a little extra bundle that made her special. 3 giant boobs! Legend has it that in the middle ages there was this wet nurse who was the best at putting babies to sleep. Turns out she had made a prosthetic extra boob with which she fed babies Friscati wine! Whether its true or not, it’s a lot better that that pope stuff. And 3 boobs is awesome, everyone likes boob stories!

Being so out of pocket for the week, not even being able to buy a boobie biscuit, the next couple of days we haunted the auto-grill on the highway. Its pretty much a free caravan park.

When the week rolled over to Sunday, we could being spending all our money again. So we hightailed it 200km south to the famous Mt. Vesuvius! We drove bigwig perilously up the entire height of the volcano, some 1281m. He hated us. When we got up though we scrambled to the summit, a near sheer footpath covered in slippery volcanic gravel.
When we got to the top Jena busted her thong and Joel gave her his and went barefoot. He felt like a hobbit climbing mount doom! So it wasn’t so bad.
The view at the top was epic, looking right out over Naples and the ocean, dotted with islands. The day was so clear and bright. Looking into the deep crater was very impressive, in some sections steam still rose, making everyone humbled by the fact that Vesuvius is still very active.
This volcano has been the life-long dream of Jena’s to climb, and it was such a wonderful day to do it on. Leaving us chomping at the bit to see Pompei.
