We sailed into Oberammergau to see what the big deal was with the whole Passionspiele. It is this 6 hour play about the passion of the Christ played every 10 years with the cast entirely made up of townspeople from Oberammergau.

We found out we could score mega cheap tickets but that we would have to come back midday the next day.

With that we set out and about again. Firstly to a royal estate called Linderhof. Its one of mad king Ludwig's 3 crazy palaces. Only this is the only one that was finished, and unlike Neuschwanstein it is madly decorated and surrounded by amazing water features and formal gardens. We had a great meander but refused to be conned into paying to go inside, once again saving a bundle. We don’t really see the point when you have free run of the rest. When we do want to look inside, we’ll just check out the postcards in on one of the dozens of kiosks… It was pretty awesome though.

In the afternoon we went to check out this abby thing called Ettal Kloster. It’s basically famous for having awesome beers made by this sect of crazy monks. Little did we know though, that the inside of the cloister was another Josef Zimmerman masterpiece church, just like Wieskurche! What a great serendipity, the beir was not so bad either.

Afterwards we cruised back to Oberammergau to wait for the morning to go get our tickets for the play
