As we sadly said goodbye to Norway we came
back into Sweden. This time hugging the coastline all the way till we came to a
little side track onto a little lake where we slept. In the morning we
continued our way down the coast to find a maccas to get wifi. When we did,
Josh Clarke, an Australian friend of ours texted us asking where we were.
Coincidentally he was living in Copenhagen, which we were just about to pass
through. He welcomed us in and we met him and his Danish girlfriend Maria in a
huge deluxe house they were conveniently house sitting for the next 10 days
We spent the next two nights in a REAL bed,
and having REAL showers, which was amazing. In the day time we rode bikes along
the foreshore as they showed us their neighborhood. On the 3rd day
we drove into the center of Kobenhavn to have a wander where we got to go into
a place called Kristianshavn ("Christiana"), a squatter settlement where
hippies have been living since 1971. It looked like downtown Jamaica and we had
lots of fun looking through their stores where they sell weird trinkets and
wacky tabaccy. They even what gunja growing along the streets. Very strange to
have in the capital city. With signs strongly warning 'NO PHOTOS' and I think
they meant it.
The weather was so sunny and gorgeous it
was stupid not to be outside soaking it up (isn't that right Jena?) Joel even
got coaxed into having a morning swim in the p-p-pool, which was not so warm.
But alas, we are back in the van again, all
refreshed and rested. Copenhagen is an awesome city to live it and we got to
learn so much about how the Scandos live and operate. & to think that if we
never stopped at maccas at that point in time, we most certainly would have
driven straight past and misses out on so much. It was the best timing ever.
Seeing a familiar face for the first time in nearly 3 months was also great.
