At the bottom though we were able to acquire a huge quantity of fireworks, after the exciting taste of explosives the days before. Now we seem to have a small arsenal capable of defeating al queda.
We then crossed into Switzerland and the mountains became more dramatic and jagged. Soon we arrived in another alps town, again on lake Geneva, called Montreux. Along the shore stood the awesome château castle Chillon where in the morning we were able to spend most of the day exploring.
This offshore castle, full with its own dungeon! This one was where Francois Bonivard was kept and spoken of by Lord Byron. On the column where he was chained had the engraved signature of Byron when he visited.
The castle was immaculately kept and restored. We got a real feel for the history and texture of its heyday. It so far, is in our top 3 castles..
There was lots more swimming in the lake and little excursions into the vineyards to have food. The heat was awful to sleep in but we were able to cool off in the lake.
We really liked haunting the castle and we spent both nights nearby looking over it as the sun set on the water.
No place for our fireworks though. There could be a fire.
