Hugging the coast of Loch Ness on our way north we saw lots and lots of gimmicky tourist traps surrounding the whole monster phenomenon. We did our best not to get roped too much but it was interesting pottering around all the little shops there.

As Loch Ness turned into the river Ness, we finally came to Inverness. In such amazingly fine weather we got to do our groceries and laundry in our summer clothes! (a big deal). Jena had decided, even with her ordinarily sensitive extremities, to wear no shoes about the town, which was met with astonishment by EVERYONE we passed. Some would ask her why she had no shoes, but most just seemed to stop, gob smacked, tracing her feet as we walked past. It was really strange to have so much attention on feet!

With some fun town antics we decided to head back down the other side of the Loch Ness heading south where there a half a dozen other smaller lochs in the countryside.

We finally came to side of a glorious stream corner where Joel rigged up his rod with his new tackle and worms bought in Inverness.

After a night by the brook, we rose late to cereal and coffee and another small fishing expedition. OUR FIRST FISH! Not just one fish, but two for our lunch. Then two again for dinner. Our little trout were so much sweeter because we had caught them ourselves. Not to mention Joel's pride is restored after so many fishing non-events. HOORAY, he thought for a while at this rate he may have to move to Emo to live.
