Where I stayed
By the sea, looking at Ireland.

Waking up early couldn't have been more of a waste of time for a young fisherman, as what was a pumping beach was now a low tide shallow. Joel tried his best for perhaps half an hour before a local told him he was wasting his time.

Driving over to Larne had us quickly into the belly of another ferry, this one, a much smaller and slower vessel brought us to Cairnryan in Scotland! Yet again we hadn’t expected to be going to another country so early, but as we are quickly learning, you grab every opportunity you can.

Some sleuthing with a local market woman led us to a little town called Maiden, overlooking the ocean back to Ireland and possibly looking over to the very place we camped the night before. What a brain trip! Ireland, it seems so far, in its beautiful coastal elegance has only been a warming up process for the outstanding Scottish landscape, which has quickly captured our hearts. The Scots have always been a bit of a joke to the global community, but we’d gladly be a joke too if we got to call Scotland our home.

We spent some of the afternoon picking around the retreating tide as it went out.

By the way, Scottish smoked salmon is a trip highlight for us.
