Our main priority in Singapore was recovering from the jet lag and doing some final preparations before heading up to Kuala Lumpur and from there into Myanmar.    We will be flying out of Singapore at the end of the trip so some of the must-see attractions (Zoo and Night Safari for example) we could put off until our return.   Also, the weather in Singapore was not optimal this time of year being on the edge of monsoon season.

Still, we had a few days and did some wandering around the town.    We were in an excellent location near the center which made it very easy to get around, but Singapore is a very easy town to travel around.    There's a metro system and the buses run like clockwork -- if you have a smartphone you can keep updated as to when your bus arrives and whether it is running late.

We went around some of the downtown, walking along the riverwalk and exploring some of the local markets.    It's tourist central, but still fun to walk around.

The following day, we went to Julong Bird Park.    This is one of the largest bird parks in the world and Sonia loves all kinds of animals.  It *is* a large park and we saw many kinds of birds.    They have several large walk-in aviaries where the birds are just flying around and you can walk in and see them.    In one location you can feed the lories which were beautiful birds.    The place is very touristy and probably better for families than birders since we like it best to see birds in the wild, but it still was a decent time.    In the early afternoon the rain came down in torrents and we had to hide under a shelter.  We still got drenched.

The following day we ran some minor errands, getting a better universal adapter and unlocked cell phones.    It's illegal to sell a *locked* cell phone in Singapore which made it a good place to buy them.    We thought about getting an unlocked iPhone or smartphone for the trip back but found out that Verizon is the only US network that doesn't use SIM cards apparently!

After running errands we went to the local Botantical Gardens which were enjoyable to walk around.    On schedule, the rains came pouring down around 3PM for an hour.    That seems to be the routine in the rainy season.    It doesn't rain all day, just for an hour, but that hour contains a whole day's worth of rain!
