If you read yesterday's blog, you know that we stayed at the Quail Run RV Park in Chaparral, NM;  what a beat-down place with pathetic oozing out of everywhere.  But this morning we got up, all chirpy, ready to hit the road, looked out on a flood - their septic system was full, so when I hooked up our rig, the water, and whatever else backed up into our shower and all around the lids to the septic.  Yikes.  We disconnected, and flew outta there without making coffee or having breakfast, even though it wasn't my fault, I didn't want a hassle with the LOOSER management.

So we headed toward Alamogordo on Route 54, because southern New Mexico has a lot of fascinating, historic stuff we wanted to see.  Here's what we were after:
White Sands National Monument (where they tested the A-bomb) - CLOSED
Museum of Space History - CLOSED
White Sands Missile Site - CLOSED
Sunspot Solar Observatory - CLOSED
International Space Museum - CLOSED
Fort Bowie National Historic Site - CLOSED
etc, you get the picture.  FRUSTRATING.  DESPICABLE. DISCOURAGING. DISGUSTING, DEPLORABLE, I wish I could add, potentially DECAPITATING (guess who).

But then we had crazy weather.  Started out with severe winds, blowing sideways which made the Chinook hard to handle and killed our miles-per-gallon.  Then we had a severe dust storm, then a severe rain storm.  At that point all we needed was the seven plagues....locusts and stuff.

But we're having fun anyway.
