After seeing the seals and some squirrels we got our proper road trip underway and headed to Palm Springs.
We took the scenic route to Palm Springs and were not left disappointed. The drive was always interesting as we were constantly surrounded by the most amazing views. The best part was driving over one of the mountains and as we came down the other side we could see Palm Springs deep down in the valley surrounded by mountains. The roads were fun to drive as well as they were well made and had fun turns.
Our accommodation was in the perfect spot as we are 1 street away from the mainstreet of downtown Palm Springs. However there is no big city here or tall buildings either which is quite refreshing and the whole place is surrounded by the huge mountains so you feel kind of enclosed.
The next day after our arrival we got up early and drove to Joshua Tree National Park. I thought our views on the drive to Palm Springs were impressive but Joshua Tree NP was simply spectacular. I'll let you look at the photos and videos as me trying to describe it just doesn't give it justice. We drove around the national park for most of the day stopping frequently to do mini walks and attempt to do some rock climbing.
There are hundreds of rock climbers around as there were thousands of really big and interesting rock formations. And the Joshua Trees went on forever. The drive was incredibly relaxing as there were slow speed limits and you could slowly drive around and admire the landscape. The view from the top of one of the mountains was epic too looking across the San Andreas Fault.
We returned in the evening to Downtown Palm Springs to discover they had closed off the main street for a night market. This was pretty cool with heaps of interesting alternative arts and crafts and delicious food. Watch the video of Mez toasting a marshmellow!!
Next we leave California and head to Zion.
