Our final morning came quickly and after a quick stop at Tim Hortons for a Vanilla Icing filled Pumpkin muffin we were on our way to the quaint coastal town of Old Saybrook.
Elite and beautiful this town is loaded with spas, boutiques, shopping, and small dining restuarnats. All the way out on the water though you will find the Old Saybrook Inn. A private club, marina, spa, meeting facility, and resturant, the Old Saybrook Inn was a welcomed sight for two weary travelers.
Joe had a coffee meeting with a team of decision makers there and I happily waited on the outdoor deck overlooking the marina's lovely view. The warm air, clean smells, and peacefull surrounding were all wonderful and welcomed experienced for this traveler. For hours I sat in quiet enjoying the people, coversations, and life that surrounded me as I plugged away on the blog you have hopefully been enjoying. Joe's visit with the Saybrook Inn came to an end just in time for lunch and from the Inn we headed to our last stop along this, most amazing road trip, to Lenny and Joe's Fish Market in Clinton, CT.
Only a few miles south from where our meeting was, Clinton is another quaint coastal community and home to Lenny and Joes.
My Joe has been there before and has always said it is one of the best seafood resturants he has ever eaten at. While I thought the statement was a little overshot, we headed off there for a lunch that I was sure I would enjoy. I have to admit that Lenny and Joe's was perhaps, one of the best seafood lunches I have ever eaten. We started off with clam strips which were meaty and obviously made fresh. Joe is constanaly on a mission to find good clam strips, and now I know why he struggles so much to find good ones. None I have ever had were as good as these! My fish n chips plate was flaky, fresh, and done just right. Coupled with the perfect cole slaw and a cold beer I could not have made the lunch more perfect. Joe's Shrimp and Scallops were also amazing and some of the best waffle cut french fries you will ever eat. A perfect lunch on a perfect day to end a perfect vacation.
From lunch, with bellies full, we headed south. Way south, back to NJ where we would find ourselves in only a few short hours back to reality, back to work, and back to planning our next adventure. With another one under our belts we come home from this one a little different than we left. With a greater appreciation for the beauty of fall, the stillness of the outdoors, the kindness of people, and all the amazing things to see when we slow down enough to really take it all in, we know we are lucky to be Joe and Frannie.
