Since boxing day Ellie and I have been lucky enough to have been put up and looked after by friends and family. We had a great time however thaqt luxury has finally came to an end.

Leaving Perth we jumped on a train to Adelaide. This journey covered over 2,000km of train track and took around 42 hours. This meant we left on the Wednesday and arrived on the Friday.

In the middle of the first night the train made a stop for several hours in the mining town of Kalgoorlie. This isolated town is home to the largest gold mine in Australia. Calling it the largest doesn't do it justice. The thing is huge. The offical name for it is "The Superpit".

We were there at night time and the whole thing was covered in flood lights. Huge trucks carrying tonnes upon tonnes of rock and gold could be seen at the bottom. They were so far down they looked like toys.

After taking a few photos (the contrast between bright lights in the distance and the dark of night confused the camera so the photos are too poor to put up) we made our way back to the train before we got left behind.
