Today is actually August 31st and we are at my son, Mercury's and his wife, Carlee's house on Bainbridge Island, WA after days of driving across the northern USA.  We have arrived before Carlee has gone into labor with my first grandchild.  Carlee is beautiful and strong and healthy and ready for the challenge of giving birth.

This entry goes back to when we were still in Rapid City, SD and before we knew what was going to happen with Crazy Fish or buying a new RV.

Andy and I decided to take advantage of our situation and do the sightseeing we didn't do before being delayed by lightning.  We were lucky to have been delayed in such an interesting and awesome area for us to explore while the mechanics and insurance company did their thing.  These pictures were from the car although it is encouraged to get out and hike, it is NOT encouraged to interact with any animals.  They are all wild animals who live on the thousands of acres that make up Custer National Park.  As you will see in the pix....many a fool hearty folk get up close and personal to even huge and dangerous animals like the mighty Buffalo.  They have an accident or two every year but still the tourists tempt fate.

I was taking a pix of the baby burros (donkeys) when my camera was pushed back into my face.  I peeked around to find myself nose to nose with a Donkey interested in me!  People feed these donkeys no matter how many times the rangers ask for them not to.  Donkeys are very social animals and come up to people without any coaxing.  They are beautiful and comical and seem very tame towards people.

Enjoy the photos...we never knew how lush South Dakota prairies are.  I hope this gives a hint as to its awesomeness.

LaLa on

I was one of those tourists who tempted fate. I only saw how gentle and calm the Buffalo were as they ambled across th eroad in front of us. I got off my motorcycle and took some pictures when one of the younger bulls got pissed off and charged me! He wasn't trying to kill but pushed me over and kept on pushing me as I rolled over and over...terrified! I will forever give wild animals their space !
