The third entry for New York this Spring.
We arrived at Whaley Lake at the end of May
to visit friends and get our Crazy Fish inspected.  Arriving early in the day gave us the opportunity to visit our friends at the Pawling Town Hall.  Low and behold we found Kathy in her office, glowing with flowers surrounding her!  We had arrived on her birthday!  Dave showed up soon after and we got to talk and laugh and catch up with all the great folks who help run the town of Pawling and the Hamlet of Holmes.

After saying "hi" to Bob and letting Maudie get her visit in with Bob, one of her most favorite people, we took off to Rhinebeck to let me visit with Claudia and her daughters, Sequoia and Sierra.  Andy stayed in a park in New Hyde Park right on the Hudson River while I caught up on all things Claudia

As you may know, this RV adventure began with Jess buying our house on Whaley Lake.  He has become a great friend of ours and the Whaley Lake community.  Jess showed up at our RV in Florida last year!   He decided to do some changes on the house that has taken him into a full rennovation!  We got the $100 tour of his electric motored potoon boat and the 'new', state of the art house he is building.  Many interesting features that save energy and create lovely private space in the home.  My camera messed up and the pics I took of Jess, Diane and the house are gone!  I have no idea where!!  It was nostolgic to be on the land of our old house and to visit with Lucky The Goose.  She remembered us and gave us hugs with her long neck.  Chris and Tammy are now her official guardians and they are doing a super job!  It was also  exciting to see an entirely different structure and landscape emerging from the old.  Can't wait to be back next year and see the inside done!!

Betty of Joe and Betty had just arrived with her sister, Grace who they are helping relocate to the north from California.(I think).  Tired and with still lots to do, Joe ran out and got us fabulous Italian dinners which he placed on a beautifully made table outside overlooking their rolling lawns and their piece of Whaley Lake.  The air was lovely as we enjoyed catching up and eating alfresco.  Check out the picture of Grace's dog!  he drank out of a huge spaghetti pot!!

Brenda and Vinny were having a get together at their house to kick off the Holiday weekend.  While in the Town Hall, Dave invited us to be his dates at the party.  Brenda and Vinny, ever the gracious hosts were non-plussed by our coming!  Vinny was at the smoker/grill cooling every description of meat to perfection as Brenda kept the table laden with one delicious course to the next.  We all added our covered dish and the party began.  Bow shooting on the front lawn, boating on the lake, boccie ball, food and good.conversation in abundance.

We walked on down to visit with Sheila and Guy to find them hosting 4 friends of Brett's.  What a terrific house and spot on the Earth to be a young man with friends for a holiday weekend!  Skiing and eating Sheila's famous hamburgers!!  Doesn't get better!!  Giving no notice of our arrival we didn't find any more time to spend together.  Sweet was the time we did.

Roger came on over to visit with Bob and us and take us for a day of tourism of the area.  Roger and Bob go to interesting and lesser known spots in Dutchess County.  Such as...The Stone Church of Dover Plains and the Iron Foundry.  Roger brought amazing pieces of polished and unpolished minerals he has found on his hikes.  As you will see through the camera lens, he shared some of his passion for rocks and metals with us.

I (Jodie) got to reconnect and catch up with girlfriends and their kids.  My how kids do grow while I have been away. Girlfriends stay girlfriends forever!  Sharing baseball games and jumping in the pool playing games was right up my alley!!!!

Lynn and Deb invited us to a day of boating, swimming and eating in their gracious lifestyle on Whaley Lake. We took advantage of it all!  Getting to be with Lynn and Deb and Betty turned back the calendar to the days when we were a part of this great community.  We miss the friendships more than we care to realize.  It really is all about people!!  We can find extraordinary places but it is the people that make the difference in the long run.  Our visit with Bob, Betty and Joe and Brenda and Vinny, Guy and Sheila, Susan, Gloria, Renee', Debbie.....the list goes on and on who made our life on the Lake and Homes/Pawling so memorable and heartfelt.  We cannot really express how much this area and time of our life meant to us so we add some of the highlights here through pictures.  I stress "highlights" because the daily walks with 'the girls' and the impromptu encounters, the meals at the 7 Stars Diner and in Crazy Fish all made use stay in love with Holmes. I guess till we have another home and make it ours through the people there, Holmes remains where our hearts are.  Even with a four day weekend at the lake we were unable to see and visit all the people we wanted to.  Next time....

Henry on

Hello Andy and Jodie,
Thanks for the updates. Travelling is sure cool huh? It's hard to explain to someone who hasn't done it, how the freedom becomes addictive. Always something new around the next corner. Unexpected experiences, discoveries, new friendships. But you said it, the downside is missing friends and community, and especially family. Even the goose! :)
We are sad to say that we are on the final leg of our journey. Today we are in Weyburn in southern Sakatchewan working our way back to Ontario. By August 1rst we plan to be home again. This will give Grace a month to aclimatise before she starts teaching again. I will be in demand in my office before then. It's been a tremendous journey discovering Canada, and also meeting new friends from across both Canada and the USA, both here and during our winter months in the Florida Keys. It's all a bit overwhelming when I sometimes stop to think of it all. For now we have committed ourselves to a year at home again. After that who can tell .... We have a year to sort that out. Cheers Henry ( and Grace who is trying to call someone on Skype )
