We drove around some of the towns located on Lake Oconee and decided to pull into a real estate office to get our bearings. Amber, the Realtor gave us a huge map and showed us the areas that were near protected lands that could not be developed. Not wanting to waste her time or ours, we drove off to follow the roads at the southern end of the lake.
After about 20 minutes of driving, we found a quiet road with a house that was on "good view water", nestled in the woods. There was a for sale sign posted with a phone # to call for a recorded message. The owner came out and we ended up going in to check out the property. The first thing Jodie and I do is go down to the water to get a feel for the lake. We don't bother going into the house if the connection to the lake doesn't feel good. That was the case here. But the owner happened to be a Realtor and told us about a property a mile or so away that had the great view, good water, nice house and reduced price because of a divorce situation. So she took us there and we checked it out.
The property is level with tall pines on each sideline, the view is long and the house has many of the features we are looking for. There's a large 2 car garage, half of which would make a sweet shop and there is enough land to plant fruit trees, grapes and a vegetable garden. Unfortunately, it is finished with sythetic stucco and I've read that that material can cause serious rotting problems if moisture gets in because of poor caulking or other openings in the finish. The moisture gets in, but it can't get out. But most problems can be fixed, so we will keep this house in mind as we continue to look around.
We pulled into a small private campground on the lake and parked next to a group of 15 or 20 people camping in RVs and tents. They all were together and the owner of the campground told us that they were all deaf. A couple of the kids from the group came over and made friends with Jodie while I was inside on the computer. Jodie was speaking enthusiastically to the kids in her animated style when I heard the kids saying "what?".... "what?"....."what?" It took a minute, but she realized that they were trying to read what they thought was her sign language and couldn't follow her. She put her hands down by her sides and the conversation went smoothly from that point on.

Before we had left Blue Ridge, GA on our visit with Louise and Sass, we had made an appointment with their dentist to get a cleaning. That appointment is coming up in a few days, so we are heading up towards that area to check out Carter's Lake and to visit the dentist. We will probably come back this way, but who knows?
We never took the time to snap any pix, so the pix here are from the internet.
