Friday July 25th, 08

For a change of scenery, to give driveway space back to the kids (Carlee, Mercury and Alden) and to feel how it is at their investment property on Welfare Avenue, we have 'trucked' on over to Welfare Avenue for a few days. It is so quiet and peaceful here.

This property is a stones throw from the water with access at Eagle Harbor. Andy I are enjoying morning and evening walks to the beach at Pritchard Park, to watch the Bainbridge Ferry come or go with its cargo of commuters from BI to Seattle and back again. The ferry makes the most lovely sound with her air horn.

The kitchen cabinets are mostly in and are looking wonderful! Great choice! The floors throughout the house are down and really pull the place together from being a contruction site to "hey this looks like a home!". Much has been accomplished at this property including well work, septic work, new siding, some windows, and more to come....new roof and bathrooms. Tubs and toilets are in and Carlee and Mercury's ideas and vision seem excellent to us! Good feel here at Welfare Ave....the name has gone back to its original meaning for me, "faring well". All good energy on this property and in the house itself. Good traffic pattern and layout. Way to go Merc and Carlee!!!

Andy took us all out to a Sushi Dinner! With everyone's busy schedules it was unusual to have all of us around at the same time, so we grabbed the chance. Thanks Andy, for a wonderful and delicious dinner!

Andy and I have been visited by three bucks and one doe in the evenings. They are black tail deer and are in excellent health. Beautiful shiny coats with no ribs showing. Still in their fuzzy antler stage they have such charm and appeal!! And not afraid of us at all!

Merc and Carlee came on over late in the day. We did a bit of tree and fence work and then settled down to have dinner in the RV. After dinner a raccoon arrived to check out the smells emminating from the RV. She (I'm guessing) is a particularly beautiful racoon with a glistening coat with black eyes shining through a black mask. Mercury decided to try feeding her from the step of the RV. We gave him a corn chip with some crabmeat dip....she hardly gave it a second's thought as she gingerly took the offering with her exquisite 'hands'. Carlee had the same success! What a beautiful creature! We know one is not supposed to feed wildlife but the temptation got the better of us that night!

Saturday, July 26

We took a ride over to Fay Bainbridge S.P. to visit the dump station and we met Doctor Bill Larson, a vet on wheels. He was using the dump facilities as we were filling up with fresh water and we struck up a conversation. His mobile vet clinic looks incredibly sweet and clean. He invited us to take a tour and Jodie got a bunch of pics to capture the space. His truck seems to have it all, with an xray machine, operating station, dental station, clavitron(?) for sanitizing his instruments and lots of storage.

When he heard that Maudie was traveling with us he asked if he could meet her (he has a thing for older cats) and we enthusiastically said sure. They hit it off right away and Maudie was purring like a motorboat as he stroked her. Then he said "do you mind if I look at her teeth- I just can't help myself" and again we were delighted to have his professional view point. Amen! Her teeth came through with flying colors. He even asked if we had them professionally cleaned (no, by the way). What a cool dude to run into and make friends with. He's been on his own for 2 years and loving it. Knock em dead (not literally) Doctor Bill!

That night, while we were parked in a grocery store parking lot while Jodie was getting supplies, I looked out the window and saw 2 of the freakiest looking dogs yet. I asked the owner if I could take some pics and she proudly said "yes." They are Mexican hairless dogs and if you look carefully, one has a mohawk and the other is playing it conservatively. Good golly, what is the deal with these dogs?

I will not share the many bizarre thoughts that come into my head regarding the Mexican Hairless, but I will ask what's with those pajamas? Love the traveling vet and Maudie. I note that even the racoons are more polite out West.
