June 10th

We continued our drive up Route 101, the California Redwood Highway and stopped at Patrick's Point State Park for the afternoon and evening. This park is lush with giant ferns, redwoods and hundreds of plants that scent the air with a clean and refreshing fragrance.

The 200' tall trees make the place kind of dark, even during the daytime. But every here and there you see sunbursts making their way down to the forest floor. This place feels ancient and the campsites are very spacious. Maudie kept hinting that she wanted to go for a walk, so Jodie took her out under the redwood giants and they walked on the pine needle floor for a half hour or so. What a feeling walking on a deep bed of pine needles, with giant redwoods covered with moss and staghorn lichen all around us.

We took a walk out to the ocean and then down to the rocky shoreline at dusk. The wind was blowing hard, but the path along the cliff was so well canopied by vegetation that we couldn't feel any breeze. This place looks like it belongs in a movie with dinosaurs.

great looking park with 200' trees it has to be humbling to walk among them good to see Maudie is doing well. had another oak come down and take out the pole in front of Eddies house but is was only a 70 footer.
