Linda and Pat's place was great, it had everything; water, electric, quiet, woods and super friendly atmosphere..... but no septic hookup to dispose of our "black water." We thought, 'No big deal', our friend and County Legislator Dave Kelly had told us about a public "dump station" at the Danbury Ct. rest area on I-84. We actually did our first "dump" there before we took off on November 18th, 2007. So Jodie and I headed over to Danbury with the plan of being back in Katonah within an hour and a half from leaving.
We pulled into the rest area and the dump station was being excavated by an backhoe and 3 or 4 highway dudes. bummer...oh well, going forward with optimism I asked one of them if there were any other places to dump and he directed us to Waterbury, Ct and the rest area over there
I started driving back toward Katonah and Jodie got on the computer and cell phone to try to track down a septic service that would agree to pump out our RV. She kept trying different combinations of words in Google to get us a number to call or a link to click that would address our delema. Nothing was panning out. Every combination of "sanitation", "Septic", "waste", "transfer station", and "sewer" was tried to no avail till....
Around and hour later...Jodie found a kind soul that directed us to the public dump station in Hawthorne, NY. Note the pictures of that station to see what words she should have plugged into Google!
2 hours later we pulled into the Westchester County Sanitary Station in Hawthorne and were welcomed by the attendant who said "of course you can use our facility"...amen!
Our short run became a 6 hour drive, but, ahh.... we were at peace!

What a way to describe it!
. right.... that's only 1 1/2 hrs of driving on route 84 for one 4 minute dump! With attitudes of acceptance we drove there in heavy cross winds and pulled in. Reading the sign on the chained and locked dump opening "closed until April 30th" our attitudes took a distinct dive! What a f...ing bummer, now what? Incidentally, our tank is now full and I mean totally full and our short trip is now going to be at least 4 hrs of driving for nothing.I started driving back toward Katonah and Jodie got on the computer and cell phone to try to track down a septic service that would agree to pump out our RV.
