Jan. 26, Sat. Cruised down to Venus to check out the houses and 22 acre parcel that Jodie found for sale. The area is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but the town of Lake Placid was about 8 miles away.
When we got to the property I was amazed at how one of the first buildings we saw looked like a structure from one of the Star Trek episodes. All of the 10 buildings were made from steel and concrete with the exception of one that was fiberglass and steel. Some of the dome shaped buildings had models and film sets with futuristic housing, bridges, vehicles and structures. I mentioned to the woman who was giving us the tour about my Star Trek dejavu and she told us that they were friends of the Star Trek set designer. What a cool place with established landscaping and orange, grapefruit, key lime, pineapple and bananna fruit trees.
Due to the recent drought, the water lagoons and ponds were down by more than 4 feet. Still enough water to be home to alligators and lots of wildlife. What an interesting place and interesting people. This property was built by them about 30 years ago to do their work on "The Venus Project". Googling it brings up their work on how to accomplish a better use of technology for a better world for us all. Very high ideals and excellent work. The buildings each had a different use for building and researching and videoing their work.
Roxanne, our hostess, became a very good draftmen and model builder over these many years with Jaques. Her workshop had hundreds of tiny landscapes and buildings and bridges etc etc. I took one picture of what she called "her nursery".
On our way home it really showed up how far away we were from any town or city. Just miles and miles of farmland!!! Beef and oranges!!! One sign we passed at the end of a miles long driveway into a ranch said in large impressive letters....such and such ranch(can't remember the name), BEEFY TYPE CATTLE.......Andy and I are thinking of starting a ranch for VEGGIE TYPE CATTLE......or.......PORKY TYPE CATTLE!!!
We passed miles and miles of orange groves. Then came upon the citrus company where all the trucks came in with their loads of oranges. The entire area smelled of orange cake! Good grief! The enormous machinery that I took pix of below are what were apparently billowing out this delcious smell. What were they making? I thought the engineering was so beautiful!!! Didn't fit my idea of oranges....but does sort of fit with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so maybe this is Squeezy and the Orange Factory.
Drove up to Arcadia for an excellent Mexican dinner at El Pirata and a night in the Walmart parking lot.

The automatic updates will be great! However I will miss the element of surprise when I go to the blog!
Actually when I look at these pictures Xanadu houses comes to mind and I want to start singing an Olivia Newton John song.
Love you both!

Jodie and Andy,
Love receiving the updates in my inbox! What a wild place you found. Great pics. Hurricane proof, to be sure.
Miss you,

Cool!
What an amazing spot you found!
Now I can get your blog at work!
Florida has a lot of secret places, as all of the world does. Bob and I went to school in 'Delightful' Deland, Fla. It is more or less between Daytona and Orlando...way before Disney. The circus wintered over in Deland. Occasionally an elephant would escape and cause havoc with people's laundry lines, also make the news. We saw the world's largest twins at the diner one night. (after curfew) I was the master of escape. Casidega Fla, just down the road a piece from Deland, is the winter spot for psychic mediums. Hmmmm. Did you read the Orchid Thief? about Remuda Ranch, south of Marco.
