The office is filled with kind, knowledgeable folks all wanting and willing to be helpful. Excellent! We need the help. Pick up a few items we seem to need even though we are so packed that there are four large bags in what walkway there is between the couch and the booth. Now we are set to figure out how to approach DC. Options galore.
We take showers, find and fix the valve, take a walk next to a roaring highway in cold windy weather and wonder what we left behind to be here for? but...there is only going forward. Can't get the cable to work so we watch Lord of the Rings for the umpteenth time. I always love it!!
Up at 6:00am and out to catch the bus to DC train station. What a station! Maybe not as impressive as our Grand Central but quite something! There was an orchestra playing!! Good breakfast while waiting for our tour bus at 9:00am. We are on our way! Et off the bus at Capitol Hill and walk to the National American Indian Museum. Fabulous and especially great food at the cafeteria....really great suggestion from Ariel...thanks Ariel!
Sunday up again and out early once again! Not quite so cold but still way too cold for our comfort. But DC waits so we heed the call. Onto the bus again and off to the Spy Museum...totally cool!! Then I went to the Botanical Gardens/Greenhouses with jungle plants going three stories high while Andy went to experience the Holocaust Museum. I chose to not go with Andy as I just couldn't feel the feelings I knew I would feel. I have felt them so often. For some reason I am more affected by the Holocaust than most anything else. Always sends me into a funk for too long. We needed me to stay in a higher mood. So the Botanical Gardens were wonderful for us both.
Tired and needing to figure out how to gain more control over our space by getting rid of more things or find better ways of packing we decided to use Monday for a day at Cherry Hill park. So we begin by heading out to the office and getting to know Marilyn. She arrived at Cherry Hill 4 years ago after 11 years of traveling with her hubby and she has never left! He sweetie has passed away and now she takes a trip here and there with her BF. We then met Phil who said he'd be happy to see if he could get our cable going. He used to work as an electrician till his kids left home and he could be a full time RVer. He also now lives at Cherry Hill and is their electrician of sorts. Is this a possible end to Andy and My story? Phil did try to get us up and cable ready but this TV resisted so far. While here working on the system, Phil told us some real horror stories about driving down the road and having a guy in a car catch up to him to shout that his kitchen was on fire!!!! Some real belly busters that actually put some fear in our little RV hearts!
As we are sorting out what we really need and want with us we are giving things away. The office loved receiving our vacuum cleaner...I hate vacuuming and with this small a space I figure I can shake out the rugs and sweep and wipe the floors. That gave us a space to put some of our way over packed clothes!!! We have at least twice as much clothing as we have space for! I have traded places with Andy for how we sleep and that left a "topper" free to give away! Yippee...more space in the storage department. I get to have my shoes out of the isle. Maybe I can get the bathroom medicine cabinet set up properly before we get to anyone's house we know!!
Sass and Louise are on our route in the next few days so we sent them a few mail order items we just had to have!! new mats for the front to protect the rugs and some script food for Maudie.
A word about Maudie. This is the best thing that has happened to her in years!! She adjusted by the second day out. A bit of meowing till she realized she was actually in a sort of cat heaven. All she gets is attention and laps to sit on while the sun pours down through the windows. She has her whole world at her command with Andy and I giving her more scratching and loving than ever!!! Maudie seems to be getting younger! She has no limp anymore and is eating well, gaining a little needed weight and is bright eyed and bushy tailed! I almost think she is starting to hear again! Is that possible? She is 20 and is now acting more like 10! Playing and jumping from one bed/couch to the next till she is tired enough to sleep yet again.
signing off till more awake and feeling clever..............Dinner at IHOP instead of cooking!
