Finally arrived on the beach!

Left Bombay on Saturday 27th Jan.  Tell you what, getting out of that city has been the most challenging part of the trip so far!  Decided a couple of days before to go and book a train ticket.  Dave decides he is going to come along, I say fine, so we get to the train station only to be told there is one ticket left for Saturday.  Not sure what to do, we sit down and have a think about it, then I decide that I was going first and he was tagging along, so I'm taking the one last ticket.  Go to book it and it's gone!  Cheap sleeper tickets are all booked up til 1st of Feb now, it's some kind of festival.  Can't spend another week in Bombay so need to get the bus.

Spent the last night in Bombay (fact - no one in Bombay calls it Mumbai) in this really cool bar on the roof of a shady hotel.  One of these places you would never know was there unless someones tells you.  Bit comfy couches etc.

Last day we hung around the Taj, a 5 star hotel across the road from the hostel.  Spent some time browsing in Louis Vuttion (spelling?) and sitting about in the lobby but were asked to leave the pool area which was only for residents.  Think it was obvious we weren't when we started taking photos.  It's weird, the Salvation Army hostel seems to be in an expensive part of town!

End up getting the sleeper bus to Goa (Dave got one on Friday - think he knew I blamed him for not being able to get the train!) on Saturday.  Left at 5pm on Sat, got to Goa at 8am on Sunday.  15 hours!  As usual promised a luxury bus, wasn't exactly what I would call luxury!  At least I got a single bunk so didn't have to share with a stranger.  I actually slept most of the way in spite of the cold (and they try to charge more for AC - totally not necessary!) so it wasn't too bad.  Cost 550 Rs for the bus, the train would only have been 293 Rs.  I was actually considering flying as it was only about 30pds.  Bus got into Mapusa so then got a taxi with an Israeli couple and a Greek guy who I knew from the hostel in Bombay to Arambol...the beach!  Am starting right at the north of Goa and going to work my way south.

Spent yesterday (Sunday) doing not a lot at all! Spent the first couple of hours trudging round guest houses on my first attempt at finding accomodation.  (Bombay was easy as I knew where I was going to stay when I arrived.  I knew I wanted my own room after spending 5 nights in a dorm so sharing with the Greek guy wasn't an option. I also said I wanted to splash out on an en-suite for a few nights too.  As it turns out I opted for a beach hut. Right on  the beach, nice to have my own room.  It doesn't have en-suite though.  I'm in the cheaper huts where you can use the 3 bathrooms with cold showers - there are more expensive ones which have 2 bathrooms with hot showers - but the guy who runs the place says I can use the hot ones as long as I don't say he told me to if anyone asks!

Spent last night sitting around the beach huts drinking rum and coke with all the other residents which included Scotland, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Israel so it was a bit of a united nations convention!

First day on the beach today, as expected have a few random red patches on my knees and ankles - seems to be unavoidable!  Arambol actually isn't the nicest beach I've seen, there seems to be a kind of raw sewage river running along the back of it, which is just lovely!  Also looked under my sun lounger and there was a disposable razor lying there.  Not sure how long I'll hang around here, maybe move south and look for somewhere cleaner!

Currently trying to upload photos, not sure if it's this antique pc or if uploading is just a long process, but it is taking longer than forever.
