It is really hard to grasp that it is actually one day away from Chrismas eve! There is so little to remind us of Christmas here - very few decorations or Christmas trees - no Christmas cookies baking in the ovens since they would have to be baked in a Wok - maybe one half of a little aisle in the mall of any "Christmas items - no Christmas carolers on the streets (oh, maybe they were all at Corey's caroling party?) - no Nutcracker piano duet being mutilated by Corey and I in a feeble attempt to resurrect our Christmas piano chops (Oh Corey, I will miss that!) - no Santas in the malls with all the little kids dressed up in their Christmas frills (oh,.....Leela.......Madelyn......Josie.....how we MISS you!!!) - no all night wrapping frenzy on Christmas eve (not that this would be an issue anymore even if we WERE there, which actually would be a big change for the better!) - no parties upon parties, and food, and more food, and sugar highs and all that yummy, "awful for ya", stuff to extend our bellies with, .....just maybe an extra helping of ......rice for us
So, we decided to nix the apartment Christmas decorating completely, replacing it with a great spa resort up in the mountains above Chiang Mai for two nights on the 23rd and 24th. Then we're heading back to Chiang Mai to spend some time with my "surrogate kids" at Viengping Orpanage and then on to a Christmas dinner at one of our favorite "American" places there.
But.....at least for me, it's actually a good thing that Buddhism is mostly what it's all about here. Up until about a week ago I was ready to spend everything we have saved so far on a last minute flight to come back just to show up for my kids after-Christmas get together! But.....here we still are.....and there all of you still are.....and again.....thank Buddha for Skype!
We just arrived earlier today at this unbelievable resort, the Panviman Spa Resort Chiang Mai, that we got an AMAZING deal on......and I have to say , .......I think maybe I can make it through the holidays, kids! Just booked our 3 hour "Christmas eve" massages for tomorrow. Aaaaahhhhhh...... and just finished dinner at their beautiful restaurant nestled high up on this lush mountain as we watched the clouds roll in - BELOW US
I can't begin to describe how beautiful this place and its surroundings are. You will all just have to get over here and see for yourself. I will blog about it after the holidays with pictures and a little more into on this little trip.
But for now, we want to wish all of you a beautiful Christmas and peaceful New Year. We will be thinking about you so much as we all meet our "different" kinds of Christmas's in our different parts of the world. We send big hugs and best wishes to all of you for the holidays and the year ahead.
