Where I stayed

Flag of Thailand  , Krabi Province,
Sunday, December 23, 2012

Railay is part of Krabi but feels like an island as you can only reach it by boat (it's not actually an island, it's part of the main land).

Even on the journey from Krabi in a long tail boat we were blown away by the beauty of the place. Coves surrounded by limestone cliffs, amazing blue water and with a real secluded feel to it, we knew we were going to love it.

We decided to stay on the Tonsai beach side, as we read it was one of the better beaches and had a bit of nightlife too. Famous for rock climbing, its the best place to stay for that too.

The place is full with hardcore rock climbers and action men. Everyone was ripped on the beach! Even the women had huge muscles! It's great to watch people scaling the cliffs around you as you sunbathe! These people have no fear. We even met a couple of base jumpers one night who throw themselves of the highest cliff with a parachute on. We saw them a few times from the beach, everyone would cheer when they landed.

We had a great time and met some cool people. One night we went to a big party in one of the bars and remembered how hard it is to dance in sand! Our favourite bar sunset bar owned by the coolest dude ever, toffy, was one of our regular spot.

We explored Railey and visited its famous cave full of wooden cocks (long story about fishermen), it's other beaches which weren't as beautiful as Tonsai, and we even did some
Rock climbing. Not for people who are scared of heights (Jo included). We did a beginners course which was pretty bloody difficult and high! I managed to do the first big climb and then stuggled with another and my arms were shot afterwards! No strength left!

Jo tried her best and gave it a go but a fear of heights and rock climbing dont really go well together!

Tonsai is notorious for its mozzies and we got bitten to shreds but loved it and may even go back, but probably won't rock climb next time!
