We spent another day with Jass and he took us and Matt to the national park where we walked through the jungle to Monkey Beach. Although the beach wasn't great we had a hard trek through the jungle which was fun!
The other great thing about Pinang is the food
the local street stalls. As a chef he tries to visit a few times a year for inspiration, it was an eye opener for us. Here's some of our faves, we can't remember the Asian names for most dishes:
Fish head curry
Chinese egg (preserved and planted for over three months)
Peanut balls - delicious!
Ban Chan Kuih - a peanut pancake, like a pancake taco filled with peanuts and sugar
Chinese noodle soup with Char Sui pork in.
Laksa - spicy noodle soup usually with seafood in.
Mango lassi shakes - fresh fruit and yogurt drinks
Banana leaf curry - three indian curries served on a banana lead with three dips, rice and poppadums, Lizzie was in heaven!
Chicken satay sticks
We loved our time in Pinang so much so that we think it's one of our favourite places so far. It has a European feel to it with the best food Asia has to offer and full of friendly faces.
It helped that we met Jass and Matt that we great company, and we are hoping to see Matt again in Oz. We'd recommend it a thousand times over - Jo wanted to live there!
