Entry 1 of 3 | show all | print this entry

We crossed the border to Bolivia about 8km from Copacabana, on the southern end of Lake Titicaca & here began our first taste of Bolivia and an outdoor pursuits weekend......
We spent two days in Copacabana, its really relaxing place must be the lake, nothing to do with the significance for the Andean people, in a religious context.
W spent the first day relaxing in th small town which has a really hippi feel, there are many travellers from Peru & Boliva who go selling jewellery - much to the discust of the polic who swipe it off th sellers if there caught. Went on a Pedlo duck for an hour & sailed across the bay the towns buildings are all painted bright colours & so the view from the lake is really pretty.... Lots of wave dodging - unsucessfully, our duck nearly sea sick!!!!
We walked up the mountain behind our fabulous hotel (hamocks & deck chairs in the gardens over looking the lake for only 5 pound per night & a great restaurant attached)to watch the sunset over lake titicaca (titi maning puma)and we had frount row seats, this was definatly one of the many highlights so far.
The second day we got the boat to the Isle del sol, this is where th Andean people believe th sun, moon & stars were born & the first inca king & queen appeared on earth near a giant rock in the centre of the island. We treked from the north to the south of th island, some fantastic views & beaches a little like paradise. We completed the walk on time to get the boat back to Copacabana, which was a little miricle as we´expected once you got to the top of th mountain it would be flat & then you would descend. Guess mountains don´t really work like that.... On arrival back to Copacabana we went for a well deserved ber or three, leaving only because to men decided they wanted to party with us.....
The following day we got the 10am bus to La Paz.
