Not at all like what we had expected when we had been told by several people how deserted it would be. Salinas had just been made a state in its own right and therefore seperate from Ecuadoren government rule - hence the reason why a large amount of Ecuadorians are now boycotting it. (We didnīt think it was particularly quiet, who knows how busy it would have been normally!?!)
We were met from the bus by Luis (a local tour guide), who recomended a hotel that we could stay at. After 20 minutes of us being there, he came knocking on our door. We arranged to meet a few hours later on the beach (or more like he said that he would come and find us).
Here was where we ate our most bizarre meal yet!! Walking along the seafront lined with restaurants, it became obvious that we were going to find it difficult to eat here because it was all seafood on the menu. A woman who owned one of the restaurants said that she would make us the salad that we had asked for (even though it wasnīt on the menu). She disappeared for a while and when our "salads" arrived we nearly fell off our chairs!!!
Salad in Salinas = Fried egg and chips, lettuce, salad and cheese and rice and beans.
Very strange, but we ate the lot!!!!
Starting to relax later - settling into our books and Luis finds us on the beach. As soon as we know it, we were whisked onto the other side of the bay in a speedboat, looking for boobies (blue footed) and pelicans!!!
The 2nd day in Salinas was the 1st proper day of sun on the beach and we were perfectly happy to lie there and make the most of it!!! Apart that is from having to say "No Gracias" about 100 times to the beach sellers who were selling all of the following: coconuts, jewellry, sarongs, swimwear, hammocks, ice cream, beer, sweets and drinks and loads more!!!!
Finally some sun!!!!!!!!!!!!
