Despite our eventual triumph we were quite off Lisbon and so decided to head down the coast to the Algarve. We took the bus to Faro which was very hot although it did stop for ice cream. We liked Faro. It's very pretty.

We booked in at the youth hostel and went out to dinner down by the water where we met Carlos the First, the waiter who *loved* us. He made us delicious kebabs.

The next day we were determined to explore Faro and possibly send people postcards about it. On the street we ran into Carlos the Second ... who later became known as Carlos ... the gigolo! He thought he was God's gift to women ... and men and possibly slow footed barnyard animals. He *loved* Jacqui and me too. He promised to take us to his grandfather's stud farm the next day.

But we had decided he was a grimy little oik by then. So we ditched him and went back to Carlos the First ...

... who told us that Carlos the Second was a gigolo and we should instead go to Tavira with him the next day instead. Oh what a confusion of Carlosesesesese. We decided to ditch all of them and go to Faro with our roommates from the hostel who were Australian and really nice.
