Me again!

Just thought I`d post some random pictures and videos for your viewing pleasure. I just finished with a brutal day with some terrible children. I only have one class with delinquents, but it is really terrible. Some kids just won`t listen. This class has three terrible little boys and one precious little girl. THe girl takes pity on me and is super cooperative - it`s a bit embarassing taking pity from a child, but she is really the only thing that keeps me going. Unfortunately for me she was sick today so I was stuck alone with these little hell raisers. They showed up early for class and thought they would use their time productively by trying to lock me into my classroom. That didn`t start the class of on the right note. When I handed their name tags to them they all thought it would be hilarious to clip them to the crotch of their pants. I`m sorry, but that is just not cool with me, so I took the name tags back. I`m surprised with this behaviour given the hightened awareness of the SEXY HARRASU issue they have in Japan these days (that`s how the Japanese refer to sexual harassement). Oh well. When I tried to hand them out again later they thought it would be a good idea to take the cards out of their holders and replace them blank side out. They are TERRIBLE kids! Before the class started the office worker came to talk to the boys in Japanese to tell them they are rotten and they had better smarten up. They basically laughed in her face and told her that their moms aren`t there so they can do whatever they want. So, she threatened to call their mommy`s. That got their attention a little bit.

I show up about 90 minutes early for class every day to set up my stuff. This is time that I am not payed for. So, I had a ten minute break between classes so I thought I had earned the privaledge of running downstairs to buy a drink. I was gone two minutes in total. When I returned an office worker chased me down to tell me that I have to ask her for permission if I would like to leave! They are soooo strict here! Oh well. In another school I work in I am not allowed to be seen in public with a drink. If I need to transport one from a vending machine to the staff room I have to carry it in my pocket like it`s a weapon. This I feel is a bit extreme. Considering I have to talk for 6 hours straight I think people would understand if I needed to wet my whistle once in a while!

Other than these minor reports, all else is going well on the work front. I like teaching adults because I make them use crazy expression when they talk (they default to a monotone barking of syllables if I don`t). They really get a kick out of it and it`s pretty entertaining for me. The other day we were talking about accidents we have had around the house and a man told us about a time when his brother was jumping off the roof of their house and he was `standing below waiting to receive him`. It`s soooo funny!

People work so hard here it`s really sad. Most only have one day off every week. So, on Saturday people in my classes will say `have a good weekend` to each other as they are leaving ... what they really mean is `have a good Sunday`. I guess some have learned to cope with the shortage of free time by jamming as much nonsense into their one day off as then can ... hence the Elivis dancers. Teenagers are really tired. Apparently on the subway older people (including senior citizens) must yeild their seats to teenagers because they are exhausted from school and studying and cram school.

The other day we went karaokeing ... AGAIN! Kyle impressed us all with his lovely version of MC Hammer`s You Can`t Touch This. It was just about the funniest thing I`ve ever heard. The only parts of the song I think he knew where `You Can`t Touch This` and `Too Hype`! It reminded me of a certain Fernando song I heard last summer!

I need to get going ... trying to figure out where we can go for our vacation.

Hope everyone is doing well. Kyle and I should have Internet at home within two weeks, so I`m sure we`ll be in touch more regularly once that happens.

Take care,
