Well, after receiving a few complaints about filling people's inboxes with too many pictures, I decided to join this site. Now you can visit at your leisure. I hope to update it on a regular basis. If there's anything you're really keen to see, just let me know and I'll snap a picture with my new digital camera (I couldn`t resist buying one ... when in Rome).
Kyle and I are in the process of getting cell phones. We will pick them up later this afternoon. What a hassle that was. I don't envy the poor Japanese man who was trying to help us out. All the cell phone here have digital cameras built in, which I can't stand because all of the new English teachers are now constantly snapping photos. This is not the right place to be if you're camera shy
Last week we went to Nagoya Port to Sea Train Park. Of course, there is no sea, and there weren't any trains. There was a really big ferris wheel that was a lot of fun (I pasted a picture into the photo album).
So the cherry blossoms are in full bloom now and there is a week long festival to celebrate them. Apparently businessmen go to local parks, drink themselves silly and run around naked or pass our on the sidewalks in their suits (we have yet to see this for ourselves). We have a day off today and were hoping to go and see the trees, but it's raining like crazy today. We'll have to go after work one day.
Training has been fun so far. We've been doing kids classes training for the past 3 days. It really drains the energy out of us. We have to do our first real kids class tomorrow. Kyle and I are sharing one class of two sisters (aged 1.5 to 3 years old) and their mommy. Should be hilarious. I am completely incompetant as far as the singing and dancing numbers so it could get a bit embarassing. The dances are very scientific (like the macaraina) and I can't seem to get some of the motions down. We'll be leading them through the 'Ya'll Ready to Get Funky' song at the beggining (Kyle's favorite)
Ya'll ready to get funky? (free dancing for about 30 seconds)
Jump! Jump! Jump! Jump!
Walk! Walk! Walk! Walk!
Run! Run! Run!
Sit down, stand up, jump up high!
Let`s have fun at ECC!
(?There's a flap your wings part, but I can`t remember where it goes)
We have to teach vocabulary with flash cards, so I am in the process of making some key ones for the first day of class. They will include new words like 'Sanitary Wipes' and 'Sanitary Gel'. I need to communicate somehow that I am not a tissue for snotty noses and drool. Apparently the kids like to jump all over you, grab women's breasts and do this weird thing with their hands where they try and poke you in your bum crack. Really terrible stuff. 'No bum crack probing' is going to be my number one classroom rule
So, we went karaokeing again last night. I'm still not really into it, but I don't think I have a choice. So far, I'm the last to resist holding the microphone. There is a small chance that I could leave this country without experiencing the Joy Joy of karaoke.
I've included some pictures in my photo album on this site ... you can see for yourself that I was not joking about the egg machine. There are some things that are just too funny here. Kyle and I walked past a lady the other day who was walking her dog. When the poor thing went to go 'number 2' the lady poised her plastic bag right under its bum so it could pooh directly into the bag. The dog looked so humiliated! The grocery stores are loaded with doggy diapers in case you don`t have time you don`t have to walk your pet.
I just looked over at a poster in my booth (at the ManBoo again) and see a drawing explaining that people are not allowed to kiss the monitor or put their feet up on the keyboard tray, although apparently masterbation is ok. Gross.
On that note I think I`ll be on my way to finish my flash cards.
Hope you are all doing ok. Please know that whenever I get drunk at karaoke I think fond thoughts of you all, and miss you terribly.
