We left Silver City New Mexico about 9am this morning and headed north on I-25 towards Santa Fe. Today was our travel day.

Soon after we left Silver City we passed through Hatch, New Mexico the Chili Pepper capital of the world.

We headed north and stopped in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Truth or Consequences was originally called "Hot Springs", it took the name of a popular game show in 1950, when Truth or Consequences host Ralph Edwards announced that he would do the program from the first town that renamed itself after the show. So Hot Springs changed its name.

About half way to Santa Fe we stopped for lunch in Socorro, New Mexico, only 3 hours left to Santa Fe.

About 15 minutes south of Albuquerque, New Mexico the sky turned a very dark blue. It was about 25 degrees so we knew we were headed for some possible heavy snow. Sure enough it was Oklahoma City all over again. We found ourselves in near white out conditions and cars began spinning off the road and flipping over in the ditch. Two trucks flipped on thier sides right in front of us.

On the brighter side, Albuquerque is most know for thier hot air ballon fest that takes place every October. I hear it is a "must see" if you are in the area that time of year.

We were able to make it safetly through the Albuquerque snow storm and arrived in Santa Fe about 4pm a 7 hour day on the road. We checked into our hotel at the Sage Inn and explored downtown Santa Fe. This place is amazing! They have the most eclectic shops and countless art galleries and restaurants.

We stopped at the Atomic Grill and had a quick beer from the Santa Fe Brewing company. We have been wanting to try authentic mexican food but wanted to stay away from the tourist destinations. With a quick recommendation from a local we found ourselves at Tortilla Flats about 5 miles away from downtown Santa Fe. A local favorite and definatley not filled with tourists. Brent had the Red Chili pork ribs and I had the Blue Corn Chicken Flatus served with Green Chile sauce. Both were super spicy and we were both crying from the hot peppers but it was definatley worth it.

We headed back to the hotel to get a good night sleep so we could get up early and shop and check out all of the galleries.
